The Challenges of Growing up Without a Father in TOWM
Nicko Cevallos
A person's entire life might be shaped by growing up without a parent. Someone may feel lost, unguided, and eager to learn things the hard way as a result. The lack of a father figure is an important part in the decisions and lives of both Wes Moores in Wes Moore's story The Other Wes Moore. The book shows how young people may find it more difficult to find purpose, self-control, and hope when an ongoing presence is absent. Even though I have a father of my own, reading about the hardships of both Wes Moores made it easier for me to understand the difficulties experienced by people without fathers and how those difficulties might affect a person's course in life.
In the story, Wes Moore, the author, loses his father at an early age. His family was surprised and devastated by his father's unexpected and sudden death, which was brought on by a medical error. Wes's life was impacted by his father's absence even if he didn't decide to go. Joy, his mother, had to raise him and his sisters by herself while putting in a lot of overtime to support the family. Wes's early years show how difficult it may be for young children to mature without the guidance of a father. He had problems paying attention, keeping control, and making decisions without that figure. He didn't find the structure he need until his mother sent him to military school. This shows how a parent's absence may still have an impact on a child's development even if it isn't their fault, requiring them to find guidance and discipline in other places.
While the other Wes Moore's story shows an independent kind of absence. If he was physically and emotionally absent, his father was still alive. He was vulnerable to the streets because he lacked a true father figure to look up to or rely on. The other Wes was raised in a violent, criminal, and drugs situation in the neighborhood. He looked to those in the area around him, such as his brother Tony, for guidance and guidance as he had no one to establish limits or educate him right from wrong. Still, even Tony, who had feelings for him, was already caught in the same setting. Tony's warning to Wes not to get involved in drug sales, despite Tony's own involvement, is one instance that demonstrates this. This question demonstrates what happens when young people are forced to depend on unreliable examples, and they begin to think that living on the streets is their only choice.
Wes Moores both show the importance of mentoring and leading by example, especially to young men. It is easy to form bad habits or make choices that seem right at the moment but cause pain later on if there is no one to model responsibility and self-control. Today, a lot of people suffer in the same manner, not because they are terrible or lazy, but rather because they have to mature too quickly and learn life on their own. Teachers, coaches, or family members who step up to fill that void can be helpful influences for certain people. It seems that some may not have such support, which increases the likelihood of going in the wrong direction.
The author Wes Moore's decision to use his situation as motivation rather than an excuse is something I respect about him. Despite not having a father to guide him, he found mentors who encouraged him and had faith in him. That lesson is important for everyone who faces difficulties in the absence of a solid father figure, not just for him. It shows that although losing a father can make life more difficult, it need not decide your destiny. People may overcome their situations and create better lives if they have the right help.
The Other's lack of father’s theme Wes Moore tells us that the people who are present and those who are not shape each person's story. Two examples of how that absence might result in entirely different outcomes are provided in the article one that leads to leadership and success, and another that leads to blunders and regret. It makes me consider how important it is for mentors, families, and communities to take action on behalf of those who lack such support at home. If nobody can control the environment that they are born into, everyone should have the opportunity to develop, learn, and be led in the direction of something better. Not everyone has a father nearby, the book teaches readers that everyone should have the opportunity to be loved, mentored, and believed in.
