Parenting - TOWM
Nicko Cevallos
One of the most important things in a person's life is their parenting. It has an impact on how kids see the world, deal with difficulties, and grow who they are. Providing food and shelter is simply one aspect of parenting, and other aspects include responsibility, love, direction, discipline, and emotional support. Children are more likely to make wise choices when their parents are involved and provide structure. Lack of structure might make it difficult for kids to find their way. Wes Moore effectively shows this in The Other Wes Moore by describing how two boys of the same name who grew up in comparable circumstances had entirely different outcomes according to the upbringing they received. This comparison demonstrates how important parenting is in determining future opportunities, behavior, and general life attitude.
Wes Moore, the author, grew up with a mother who encouraged him to succeed all the time. Even when he disobeyed her rules, she demanded responsibility, respect, and discipline. She had to make the tough choice to send him to military school after seeing he was getting in with the wrong crowd. He first hated it and begged to go back home. But his mother never refused. Her stability gave him a sense of purpose, self-control, and leadership. According to Moore, military school was one of the most important events in his life, and it was directly caused by strict and deliberate parenting. His success as a scholar, author, and leader later in life shows how effective leadership can create opportunities even under difficult times.
But the other Wes Moore lacked the same framework and direction. While his mother loved him very much, his upbringing was impacted by stress, lack of support, and financial difficulties. He was not always supervised or guided, unlike the author, which caused him to be influenced negatively by things like running the streets and eventually dealing narcotics. It wasn't that he didn't have talent, but both boys were capable and smart. Direction was the difference. Adults in the author's life enforced discipline and prevented him from giving up. Due to his lack of loyalty, the other Wes ended up in the hands of the streets and was sent to prison. If parenting had an important impact on each boy's journey, it did not completely define their fates.
Real life is also reflected in this tale. Parenting impacts not just childhood but also adulthood. When a youngster is making decisions, the lessons they learn from their parents become the voice in their head. A parent who builds respect and discipline in their children equips them to handle situations correctly. Since parents don't provide stability, kids could look for it elsewhere, including in dangerous places. While parenting does not ensure success, it does raise the likelihood of a bright future by offering stability, direction, and emotional support.
Parenting matters because it lays foundations for a person's future. It can safeguard a youngster from harmful environments, promote discipline, and mold values. The tale of the two Wes Moores serves as a potent reminder that structure and direction may transform a person's life. One Wes Moore possessed direction, which led to his achievement. Because that direction was weaker and more chaotic, the other ended up behind bars. Their experiences demonstrate that effective parenting is crucial and can mean the difference between success and failure.
